How MST Acoustics Controls Quality: From Raw Material to Loading Bay

Acoustic panels are a consistency business. A distributor can sell one beautiful sample; a manufacturer is judged on whether the ten-thousandth panel matches the first. Quality control is how we answer that question, and this article documents the routine our customers’ projects depend on.

Incoming material control

Quality starts before production. Recycled fiber arrives with origin documentation and is checked for cleanliness and consistency; wood-based cores (MDF for slat and perforated lines) arrive with E1/E0 formaldehyde certificates verified against the mill’s documentation. Veneer batches are inspected for color and grain matching before they enter the slat line.

In-process batch control

  • Color: every felt production run is logged against its dye lot; panels for a single order are produced from matched lots, and retained samples from each lot are kept in our reference library.
  • Density and thickness: spot measurements across each run keep the acoustic properties where the datasheets say they are.
  • Bond quality: veneered slat panels are pull-tested from production samples to verify adhesion before packing.

Laboratory testing program

Periodic accredited testing keeps our document set current: ISO 354 absorption data per panel family and thickness, EN 13501-1 B-s1,d0 and ASTM E84 fire reports on the exact constructions we ship, and formaldehyde class verification. Certificates are issued for the products as sold — because a fire report for a construction you do not ship is worth nothing.

Final inspection and loading

Before packing, each order passes a final inspection: quantity and format verification against the packing list, color match against the approved sample, and surface checks on veneered products. Then the loading discipline: moisture-barrier wrapping, corner protection, engineered palletizing, container lashing — and pre-loading photographs sent to the customer as standard. When your container arrives, you already know what is inside.

What this means for buyers

Claims are how quality control is ultimately measured. Our ocean-freight damage rate runs below half a percent, and color-match disputes are rare precisely because the discipline happens upstream. If you would like to see the system in person, our factory visits include the QC stations — the reference library of retained color samples is usually the part visitors remember most.
