Buyers compare acoustic panels on absorption data, fire class and price — and often discover only after the first shipment that the fourth critical variable is packaging. Panels that arrive warped, chipped at the edges or compressed by bad palletizing turn a healthy margin into a claims process. Having loaded thousands of containers, we can say with confidence: export quality is decided on the factory floor, not the ocean.
Why acoustic panels are demanding cargo
PET felt panels are light but flexible; wood-based slat panels are rigid but vulnerable to edge damage; both fear moisture. A 30-day ocean crossing can expose a container to humidity swings and repeated handling — trucks, ports, trains — each an opportunity for impact. Packaging must solve compression, impact and moisture at the same time.
The packaging system that works
- Individual protection. Each panel stack is wrapped with a moisture barrier film; wood slat panels additionally get foam sheets between faces to prevent veneer-to-veneer abrasion.
- Edge and corner defense. Cardboard corner protectors on every stack corner — edges are where nearly all transit damage happens.
- Engineered palletizing. Panel stacks are sized to the pallet footprint, banded, and kept under a maximum stack height so bottom layers never carry crushing load. Heavy items (slat panels) below, light items above.
- Container discipline. Pallets are secured with airbags or lashing straps to eliminate shifting; gaps are filled, not left to physics.
- Labels and documentation. Carton labels carry project references, color codes and quantities so receiving and installation teams can check against the packing list in minutes.
What buyers should benchmark
Ask any prospective supplier three questions: What is your damage rate? A professional factory tracks claims and will quote a figure well under one percent. Can I see your packing photos for a reference shipment? What happens if something does break? The answer should include photo-based claims within a defined window and a concrete replacement policy — not vague reassurance.
MST Acoustics export standards
Every MST Acoustics order ships with our standard export packing system: moisture-barrier wrapping, corner protection, engineered palletizing and container lashing, with pre-loading photo documentation sent before departure. Our damage rate on ocean freight runs below 0.5%, and claims received with photos within 14 days of arrival are handled by replacement in the next shipment. Good logistics is not a cost center — it is the last step of quality control.
